Fire 96 Girls Win Gold at Crossroads of the South
FIRE CONSUMES CROSSROADS
The Fire 96 girls were back at it in Jackson. They played an excellent and thrilling weekend of soccer at Crossroads and defended their championship medals. The girls started off play early Saturday morning to compete against the Lafreniere Sting from the New Orleans area. They played a tough game and defeated the sting 3-0. Goals were scored by Lauren Marler, Beth Coleman and Hannah Bailey. Alixa Veal and Beth also notched an assist each in the game as well. The next bracket game was against the NELSA Bombers from Monroe, LA. The girls kept their aggressive nature and displayed great movement and possesion during the game. The girls were able to defuse the Bombers in a 4-0 victory. Goals were scored by Katelyn Watson, Anna Kate Brown and 2 more from Beth. Sara Daniels, Parris Ladner and Anna Kate were responsible for assisting on the goals as well. The girls swept their bracket with a clean sheet in two games and were pitted against JFC in the Semi-final match. The game was a showcase for defenses from both teams. The game ended in a 2-1 victory for the Fire but all goals scored were from set pieces, all being corner kicks for both teams. Beth opened the scoring for the Fire with a beautiful curving corner that went over the keeper and into the far upper side-netting. the second score game from Katelyn's corner that was directed into the back of the net by Parris. The girls advanced into the finals to play CSC Rage from Lafayette, LA. This game was again a defensive struggle. The game ended in regulation in a 1-1 tie. Hannah delivered the lone score with an assist from Beth. The game was then destined to be decided on another dreaded PK shootout. The shootout was tied after the first round of 5, 4-4. The second round of 5 allowed the girls to take the gold with a 7-6 cumlative PK score. GREAT WEEKEND GIRLS!!!! We are all looking forward to GIT in November and a little winter break.
