Fire '96 Girls White Place 2nd at United Cup, 1st at CrossRoads FIRE '96 WHITE WINS CROSSROADS
This years Crossroads tournament was filled with excitement. The girls welcomed back Lauren Marler who was injured at the Baton Rouge United Cup. Lauren quickly returned to form and helped the team greatly throughout the weekend. The girls started off the weekend with an early morning game against MYSO Electric from Meridian. The girls were sluggish in the opening game allowing MYSO to score first and apply a lot of pressure early. The fire stepped up in the half to take a 2-1 lead into half time. The second half the girls awoke and scored 4 great goals to round out a 6-1 victory. Goals were scored by Lauren, Parris Ladner, and two apiece for Katelyn Watson and Beth Coleman. Assisting in the game was Lauren, Kennedy and Parris added three of her own. The girls were disappointed to learn their second match was canceled as Germantown decided not to make the trip as they were looking to play 11v11. The girls instead had a training session and a pizza party at Freedom Ridge. The team had their third match of the bracket play Sunday morning against Carrollton. The girls played a great game controlling play and dominating possession during the match. The defense was tight the entire game but did give up an own goal in the second half. The girls were able to power in three goals of their own during the match. Goals were scored by Parris and two for Alixa Veal. Assists were added by Katelyn and Lauren. The 3-1 victory gave the Fire a bracket sweep into the Semi's. In the semifinal match the Fire was pitted against CSC Rage. This was the fourth match this year against the Rage. The girls started off quick with a great shot from Lauren on a cross from Parris. The girls held a slim 1-0 lead at the half. The Rage came out strong in the second half and were able to pull ahead with a 2-1 lead. Parris was able to power a strong shot into the far netting from the left side of the field with minutes to go in the match, The game ended in regulation with a 2-2 tie. The semi was then to be decided on a PK shootout. The girls took the match with a 4-3 victory in the shootout. The finals had the girls pitted against JFC Green. The Fire took control early when Alixa scored on a shot from the right side of the goal just making it into the net. Parris added her second hat trick of the year scoring three goals. Alixa added an assist during the game and the Fire took the gold with a 4-0 victory. The defense anchored by Hannah Bailey and led by Keeper Katie Pearson shut down the JFC attack. The excellent play of Lanie Little, Olivia Crabtree, Regan Johnston, Amber Thomas, and Kennedy Rose kept JFC from applying any pressure on their goal. The girls played great all weekend and were able to bring home the victory. We are extremely proud of their accomplishments so far in the Fall campaign and look forward to Germantown Invitational in November. Congratulations girls!!! GO FIRE!!!!!
The girls came up just short in the championship after a long weekend. The Fire started the weekend on Saturday morning with a game against JFC 96White. The girls played tough the entire game. Katie Pearson played tough in the goal only giving up an own goal. The fire goals were scored by Katelyn Watson, Parris Ladner, Kennedy Rose, Alixa Veal and a PK goal by Beth Coleman. Lauren Marler went down in the game and missed the remainder of the tournament. We are hoping for a speedy recovery and want to see her on the pitch soon. The game ended in a 5-1 victory. The next game had the girls playing MSC (Mandeville) Blue. This game the girls really took control of play and moved the ball well. Goals were scored by Parris, Alixa and three from Katelyn. The girls had an early morning game Sunday. They played CSC Rage from Lafayette. The girls toughed out the early morning and a tough team to a 3-1 victory. Goals were scored by Katelyn and Alixa. The fire was also the recipient of an own goal by CSC. The girls swept the bracket and looked forward to the semifinals. The game was against Carrollton Green. The girls had to push themselves deep for this game. The girls were able to pull out a 3-1 victory and look forward to the finals. Parris scored all three goals in the game. The finals had the girls facing CSC Rage for the second time of the day. The girls came out slow and seemed to have been drained in the earlier matches of the day. The Rage jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first half. Katelyn was able to answer one goal in the second but that was all the girls could push for in the game. They lost the final 2-1 but should hold their head high after a long tough weekend that had the girls pushing there endurance. Great weekend girls! Looking forward to Crossroads this week!
