FIRE 96 GIRLS WHITE BURN UP MEMPHIS
The girls blew into Memphis  for the SoccerElite Grrrls Spring Championship and came home with the gold. The girls faced the Lady Kicks, from Huntsville, Alabama, in their first match Saturday morning and won 4-0.  Parris Ladner had two goals and Kennedy Rose and Beth Coleman each added a goal of their own. Assists were provided by Beth and Alixa Veal. In the second game the girls defeated SWISA Hurricanes from Indiana by a score of 2-0 and ended bracket play undefeated.  Katelyn Watson had a goal and Beth scored and had an assist. The Sunday semi-final match against the Madison Shockers from Madison, Alabama ended with the girls winning 3-0. Goals were netted by Parris, with 2, and Alixa. Beth added her third assist in three games as well. The defense played outstanding allowing the girls to walk into the final with 9-0 goal differential in three games. The final pitted the girls against the SWISA Hurricanes for the second time this weekend and the third time in less than two months. The girls opened the first half of a game with a goal and took a 1-0 lead into the break, on a great shot from Alixa to beat the keeper wide to the far post before being taken out by the keeper. The Hurricanes scored two goals in the opening 8 minutes to jump to a 2-1 lead and pushed back players in hopes of holding the lead. The Fire girls kept up the pressure for the remainder of the half taking numerous shots but failing to hit the back of the net. With less than 10 minutes remaining the girls tied the game with a goal from Beth and a chance for coaches Derick and Brandon to breathe again. With less than five minutes remaining the Hurricanes took a shot low toward the near post, Katie Pearson was able to dive and stop the shot. She immediately took the ball forward made a quick punt down the middle of the field as Lauren Marler made her run towards the opposing goal. The punt took one bounce in the penalty area were Lauren made her jump and headed the game winner over the keeper into the back of the net. The defense was able to hold on when the Hurricanes put on the pressure and pushed everyone forward in hopes for a tie. The game ended in a thrilling 3-2 victory for the girls! Congratulations to the girls for a great team effort!!! We also want to congratulate the SWISA Hurricanes for a great game and hope to see them again on the pitch. GO FIRE!
