U18 Boys White Are Crossroads Champions Again
Wednesday, November 28, 2007 (51 reads)

The Mississippi Fire ’90 Boys White team recently won their sixth Crossroads of the South Tournament and continued its streak of never having lost a game in Crossroads while playing in their age group. The 18 Boys defeated Cajun Fury in their first bracket game by a score of 4-0 with goals from Griffin Fahling, Garner Shivers and Jake Benton (2)and assists from Hunter Bower, Christopher Williams and Garner Shivers(2).
In their second bracket game vs. the Kicks from Huntsville, the boys won 5-0 with goals coming from Garner Shivers (2)  Mick Fullerton, Logan Jones and Dillon Walker. Assists came from Drew Little, Dillon Walker, Logan Jones, Chris Porter and Elliott Thornburg.  To advance the boys had to tie or defeat NOSA who came into the game 1-0-1.  With goals from Elliott Thornburg, Christopher Williams and Daniel Robbins, the team defeated a very strong NOSA team by a score of 3-0 and advanced to the finals. Assists came from Garner Shivers, Daniel Robbins and Christopher Williams.

It’s the final that everyone wanted - Fire vs JFC and unlike the state championship, there was a winner on the field. These two teams last meeting was in Tupelo at State cup which ended in a tie with  JFC advancing to Regionals on goal differential. But, it will long be remembered as the game that Logan Jones was cleated in the throat by the JFC keeper resulting in a cut from his chest to his stomach and no foul being called. The Fire came into the final at Crossroads scoring 12 while not allowing a single goal behind goalkeepers Justin Palmer and Blayze Kraft. JFC advanced after winning its bracket with a 1-1 tie against the Fire Red team, a 2-2 tie against NOSA, and a 2-1 win against the Cajun Fury. In the final, JFC went up 2-0 but the Fire  came back with goals from Logan Jones, Patrick Bierdeman and Christopher Williams with assists from Daniel Robbins and Garner Shivers to win 3-2 and take home another Crossroads Championship.   This win and all wins are dedicated to our teammate Mick Fullerton and his sister, Caitlin. Congratulations to the 18 Boys White.

Fire '96 Girls White Wins Crossroads
Sunday, November 25, 2007 (49 reads)

The ’96 Girls welcomed back Lauren Marler who was injured at the United Cup. She quickly returned to form and helped the team all weekend. The girls started off against MYSO Electric from Meridian and after MYSA scored first they stepped up in the first half to take a 2-1 lead  and then came alive and scored four great goals to end the game 6-1.  Goals were scored by Lauren, Parris Ladner, and Katelyn Watson (2)  and Beth Coleman. Assisting in the game was Lauren, Kennedy and Parris with three. The girls second match was canceled as Germantown decided not to make the trip so instead the girls trained and had a pizza party.  On Sunday vs Carrollton, the girls dominated possession but gave up an own goal in the second half. The girls scored three goals with  Parris scoring one and two for Alixa Veal.  Assists were added by Katelyn and Lauren. The 3-1 victory gave the Fire a bracket sweep into the Semi's where they were pitted against CSC Rage for the fourth time this year. The girls started off quick with a great shot from Lauren on a cross from Parris and held a slim 1-0 lead at the half but the Rage came back in the second half and went ahead 2-1. Parris was able to score from the left side with minutes to go securing a 2-2 tie. The girls won on PK's 4-3 to advance to the finals against JFC Green. Alixa scored first and Parris added her second hat trick of the year.  Alixa added an assist during the game and the Fire took the gold with a 4-0 victory. The defense anchored by Hannah Bailey and led by Keeper Katie Pearson shut down the JFC attack. The excellent play of Lanie Little, Olivia Crabtree, Regan Johnston, Amber Thomas, and Kennedy Rose kept JFC from applying any pressure on their goal.  Next up -the Germantown Invitational. Congratulations girls!!! GO FIRE!!!!!

What a difference a day makes!
Tuesday, November 06, 2007 (47 reads)

I was sitting back contemplating the other day about the success of the club and how well we had fared at the Crossroads tournament. What a great two weekends!  We had five champions!  Several of our teams were in the final or semi final. All that went out the window Thursday morning when I got that dreadful call! Kenny are you sitting down? Mick Fullerton and his sister Caitlin were killed in a car accident on their way to school this morning. How do you deal with that? How do we deal with that? Even more how does Elaine and Jay their parents deal with it? I wish I had the answer. I just know that I am a better person and a better coach because I coached Mick Fullerton. I also know that it isn't just about soccer. It's about life and what life brings you. I have been a coach for over twenty years. I have directed several clubs even a state but something hit me like a ton a bricks today. It's not just about soccer! It's about family. It's about an extended family! I could not have been more proud of my extended family today! To see players and parents from every club in the state to pay tribute and to pray for the Fullerton family . To receive emails and telephone calls from all over the country to share there concerns. That is what this is about. I will miss Mick and Caitlin (by the way she was a part of the team, she was always there to support us and Mick) dearly! It will be difficult to get on the field again but as the minister  said at the funeral, "we must keep walking!" We will keep walking and we will know that Mick and Caitlin are in heaven probably playing a soccer game! They will be with us always! This tragedy puts things in perspective. Enjoy life, enjoy your children, forgive and love harder!

If you would like to send Jay, Elaine and Will a card or note, you can send that to the Fullerton's c/o Mississippi Fire, PO Box 320746, Flowood, MS 39232 and we will be sure that they get it.

To honor the memory of their children, Jay and Elaine Fullerton have established a scholarship fund for players who may not have the funds to play club soccer. Please consider making a donation to the Caitlin and Michael Fullerton Memorial Fund at any Bancorp South branch or by mailing it to Bancorp South at 100 Primos Road, Flowood, MS 39232.

"Our Mick"

Mick Fullerton a member of the Mississippi Fire '90/U18 Boys White team was killed Thursday, November 1  in an accident that also took the life of his 14 year old sister, Caitlin. Mick was an original team member having joined the team when it formed at U11 and had anchored the back line since that time. He was admired by his teammates for many things including his loyalty to his friends and family, his work ethic and his love of the game. He was also a member of the Northwest Rankin High School team. Caitlin was also a student at Northwest Rankin High School. Mick and Caitlin are survived by their parents, Jay and Elaine Fullerton and brother, Will.  Jay, Elaine, Mick and Caitlin traveled together as a family to soccer events all across the country. Jay is the travel coordinator for the 18B White and was the driving force behind organizing the  '90 Boys European tour in 2006.

An account has been established at Bancorp South to honor Mick and Caitlin which Jay and Elaine will use for soccer scholarships for those who loved the game like Mick and have the enthusiasm for it that Caitlin did. You can make a donation to the Caitlin Fullerton and Michael Fullerton Memorial Fund at any Bancorp South branch or mail your donation to Bancorp South, 100 Primos Road, Flowood, MS 39232.
Many people has also asked about sending cards and letters and those can mailed to  Jay & Elaine Fullerton c/o Mississippi Fire, PO Box 320746, Flowood, MS 39232. You can also sign their online guest book at
