Club Teams Compete in Chicago Friday, October 12, 2007 (9 reads)
The 95 Boys, coached by Josh Montgomery, along with the 92 Girls and 93 Girls, both coached by Trey Woodham for the weekend, competed in the inaugural Chicago Fire Juniors tournament in Chicago, Illinois in August 2007. Mississippi Fire Junior teams played 3 matches each against Illinois Junior teams. Unprecedented bad weather in the Chicago-land area prevented Junior teams from Michigan and Wisconsin from participating, as had been originally planned. However, the hosts, Chicago Fire Juniors of Illinois, still managed to put together three highly competitive matches for each of our teams against Junior teams from Chicago. Between matches, Fire Junior teams from Mississippi, Illinois and Michigan attended a Chicago Fire MLS game, and saw the Fire win 2 - 0 over the Kansas City Wizards.

Seven Mississippi Fire Teams Compete in Premier League Thursday, October 04, 2007 (16 reads)
The Mississippi Fire has seven teams competing in the premier league this year – more than any other club in Mississippi! The Region III Premier League is an elite league for U14 and older teams that finish first or second in their state cup. The Premier League winner gets an automatic bid to Regionals so the stakes are very high. While all teams want to win the premier league it also gives teams the opportunity to compete against the best teams from a five-state area. Teams that are invited to play, pay a registration fee and share in the cost of officials. Games are usually scheduled on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning so hotel stays are limited to one night. Games are scheduled across the five state area with some being on neutral ground. If a team competing in premier league is also their state cup champion, they will go to regionals as their state cup champion and the second place premier league team advances to regionals. The Central Premier League division which we compete in is made up of teams from Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana, Arkansas, and Tennessee. The following seven Mississippi Fire teams are currently competing in the league:
‘94/U14 Boys coached by Britton Webb ‘93/U15 Boys Blue coached by Cecil Hinds ’92/U16 Boys White coached by Steve DeCou ‘90/U18 Boys White coached by Chad Hampton ’94/U14 Girls coached by Kenny White ‘91/U17 Girls coached by Chad Hampton ‘90/U18 Girls coached by Corey Rose
Some teams are completing premier league play this fall and some age divisions will not finish until the spring. The U14 Girls are currently in second place, the U18 Boys White team is in third place and the U18 Girls are in second place. You can keep up with all action by visiting www.hotstat.com/classic and see the standings and read game reports. Good Luck to all Fire teams competing in the Premier League.

| Nominate a Responsible Coach for a Responsible Coaching Award by August 31st! | | Now that the US Youth Soccer National Championships are over, it is important to reflect on the season and give thanks to these individuals who consistently give their time and energy to create a positive youth soccer experience. Many of these mentors face tough expectations: teaching the game of soccer, ensuring players safety, providing equal playing time, and guiding their team to victory. But when a youth soccer coach, the assistant coaches, club administrators and the entire soccer community place character, sportsmanship and the young soccer athletes' well-being before wins, they demonstrate a level of responsibility that deserves recognition.

Mick Fullerton a member of the Mississippi Fire '90/U18 Boys White team was killed Thursday, November 1 in an accident that also took the life of his 14 year old sister, Caitlin. Mick was an original team member having joined the team when it formed at U11 and had anchored the back line since that time. He was admired by his teammates for many things including his loyalty to his friends and family, his work ethic and his love of the game. He was also a member of the Northwest Rankin High School team. Caitlin was also a student at Northwest Rankin High School. Mick and Caitlin are survived by their parents, Jay and Elaine Fullerton and brother, Will. Jay, Elaine, Mick and Caitlin traveled together as a family to soccer events all across the country. Jay is the travel coordinator for the 18B White and was the driving force behind organizing the '90 Boys European tour in 2006.

An account has been established at Bancorp South to honor Mick and Caitlin which Jay and Elaine will use for soccer scholarships for those who loved the game like Mick and have the enthusiasm for it that Caitlin did. You can make a donation to the Caitlin Fullerton and Michael Fullerton Memorial Fund at any Bancorp South branch or mail your donation to Bancorp South, 100 Primos Road, Flowood, MS 39232. Many people has also asked about sending cards and letters and those can mailed to Jay & Elaine Fullerton c/o Mississippi Fire, PO Box 320746, Flowood, MS 39232. You can also sign their online guest book at www.clarionledger.com
