Tuesday, April 29, 2008 (33 reads)

Mississippi Fire 96 Boys White have repeated last year's back to back victories of the MS FIRE Spring Classic and the Emerald Coast Cup in Destin, FL.

The FIRE Classic win saw the boys of 96 White go all the way through without giving up a single goal to their opponents. 96 White had a  6-0 win over Baton Rouge, a 0-0 tie with Mandeville White, , a 2-0 win over Mandeville Blue on Sunday, and finally, a definitive 4-0 victory over Clinton Futbol Club.

A 4-0 win over Emerald Coast United, and a 5-1 victory over Perdido Bay gave the boys an automatic bye to Sunday's championship game at the Emerald Coast in Destin.  Their opponent in the final, Biloxi Express, came looking for revenge for their loss at Spring league games, but the FIRE burned them again with a stinging 4-1 win.

Thursday, April 24, 2008 (27 reads)

Coach Trey Woodham has talked to his team , the ’93 girls all year about how important it is to win at state cup. But, if there was one other tournament that he wanted to win it was the Red River Classic held in his hometown of Shreveport.  Well, the girls are working hard  to bring home that state championship coming in as a finalist at the Mississippi Fire Spring Classic, but they also gave him a championship at the Red River Classic!  After two wins on Saturday against Shreveport and East Texas Spirit, they tied against LYSA Sunday morning.  They went on to play LYSA in the final game.  It was a tough game again but in the 70th minute, guest player Anna Miles crossed a ball to Jewels Mahaney who scored!   After four games - no goals were scored against these girls! Congratulations to the Coach Trey Woodham and ’93 Girls!

"Our Mick"

Mick Fullerton a member of the Mississippi Fire '90/U18 Boys White team was killed Thursday, November 1  in an accident that also took the life of his 14 year old sister, Caitlin. Mick was an original team member having joined the team when it formed at U11 and had anchored the back line since that time. He was admired by his teammates for many things including his loyalty to his friends and family, his work ethic and his love of the game. He was also a member of the Northwest Rankin High School team. Caitlin was also a student at Northwest Rankin High School. Mick and Caitlin are survived by their parents, Jay and Elaine Fullerton and brother, Will.  Jay, Elaine, Mick and Caitlin traveled together as a family to soccer events all across the country. Jay is the travel coordinator for the 18B White and was the driving force behind organizing the  '90 Boys European tour in 2006.

An account has been established at Bancorp South to honor Mick and Caitlin which Jay and Elaine will use for soccer scholarships for those who loved the game like Mick and have the enthusiasm for it that Caitlin did. You can make a donation to the Caitlin Fullerton and Michael Fullerton Memorial Fund at any Bancorp South branch or mail your donation to Bancorp South, 100 Primos Road, Flowood, MS 39232.
