Jerry Porter Named Administrator of the Year by Mississippi Soccer Association Saturday, January 05, 2008 (22 reads)
Jerry Porter Named Administrator of the Year – To be presented with Suzanne Brown Award Jerry Porter, assistant manager for the Mississippi Fire ’90 Boys White team helps team manager Bondee Bower. In reality this doesn’t come close to describe what Jerry does for the team and what he means to the team.
When Bondee cannot attend tournaments or games, Jerry handles all of the usual manager things such as checking the team in, insuring that the proper paperwork is completed, etc. He also arrives at tournaments earlier than anyone else so he can drive to the fields and then give every one else instructions on the best way to get there.
Jerry always has something positive to say to each player before and after a game. While he is honest in the game reports that he writes, he always finds something positive to say about each player. While Jerry may sound like a rabid soccer fan , he never yells at the ref, players or coaches. He is quiet at games and rather than yell at the team about what they did wrong, he will quietly give them a DVD to watch so they can see for themselves what they need to do to improve.
- Jerry keeps up scores of all games, goals, assists, shutouts, etc. and by individual player.
- He helps keep up with equipment as well as wraps ankles and stretches players.
- When the coach is unable to warm the players up, Jerry steps in and does it.
- He videos every game and makes the DVDs available to the players, parents and coaches.
- Jerry photographs all of the players throughout the season and makes the pictures available to all parents.
- He puts together highlight videos of individual players and/or games for the players and parents as well as sends them to college coaches who have expressed interest in a player.
- He writes a report on each game played and distributes to each player on the team.
- Keeps up with all cards so the monthly card report can be done
- Writes the team’s game reports for the premier league web site hotstat.com
- In eight years, he has only missed a handful of games.
Jerry was recently honored with other award winners at the Mississippi Soccer Association annual meeting on January 25th in Vicksburg. Congratulations to Jerry Porter from the Fire 18 Boys White Team.

| Nominate a Responsible Coach for a Responsible Coaching Award by August 31st! | | Now that the US Youth Soccer National Championships are over, it is important to reflect on the season and give thanks to these individuals who consistently give their time and energy to create a positive youth soccer experience. Many of these mentors face tough expectations: teaching the game of soccer, ensuring players safety, providing equal playing time, and guiding their team to victory. But when a youth soccer coach, the assistant coaches, club administrators and the entire soccer community place character, sportsmanship and the young soccer athletes' well-being before wins, they demonstrate a level of responsibility that deserves recognition.

He was also a member of the Northwest Rankin High School team. Caitlin was also a student at Northwest Rankin High School. Mick and Caitlin are survived by their parents, Jay and Elaine Fullerton and brother, Will. Jay, Elaine, Mick and Caitlin traveled together as a family to soccer events all across the country. An account has been established at Bancorp South to honor Mick and Caitlin which Jay and Elaine will use for soccer scholarships for those who loved the game like Mick and have the enthusiasm for it that Caitlin did.
